Build a Silverlight Sports Game Contest Official Rules


All entries must be submitted by September 8th, 11:59PM, EST. You may enter as many games as you like, but you can only win one prize. You may update the submitted game as often as you like up until the deadline. No changes will be allowed after the deadline.

Game winners will be chosen after the deadline and will be announced September 19th, 2008. Entries will be made playable on by September 26, 2008.


  • Grand Prize: $1,000 USD
  • Second Place: $600 USD
  • Third Place: $400 USD

In the event of insufficient qualified entries into the Contest, the contest Administrator reserves the right at their sole discretion to select fewer than the stated number of winners.

Judging Criteria

Entries will be judged in the following categories:

  • Gameplay/Fun factor 50%
  • Completeness 30%
  • Creativity/Originality 20%

Application of the Judging Criteria to Entries shall be at the judges' reasonable discretion and, as to matters of subjectivity, the judges' sole discretion. The judges' decisions are final and binding in all matters relating to this Contest.


We're a sports site, so your game needs to have a sports theme of some kind. It could be as simple as using sports related game pieces for a puzzle game, or as totally sports as a complete soccer game simulator. We're also big into Silverlight so that's what we want all of the games to be written in. Most of all, make it FUN!

Game submissions must include the source code and solution files for the entry.

By submitting your game, you grant and its affiliates a non-exclusive license to display the entry on You're free to host the game on your own site or others and do with it as you wish as long as we're allowed to host it too.

Copyright Restrictions

The game may not include any copyrighted content used without the permission of the copyright owner.

Content Restrictions

The content of the game should be limited to the equivalent of a "PG", or "E-10" rating. Entries must not contain any gambling aspects or references to gambling.

Silverlight Version

The game must be built for the Silverlight 2 Beta 2. If a new version of Silverlight is released before the contest deadline, the game must be updated to the latest version of Silverlight 2 before submission.

Terms and Conditions

The contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States, including residents of the District of Columbia and excluding residents of Rhode Island. Entrants must be at least 17 years old at the time of entry. Employees of, its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, and the immediate families of each may not enter. Void where prohibited.

You must have legal right to commercially distribute your entry in order to be eligible. Your entry can use third-party libraries, as long as the legal distribution requirements are met.

By entering, each Entrant grants to Sponsor and Administrator (including its affiliates, employees, agents, and contractors), an irrevocable, royalty free, fully paid up, worldwide license to use, review, assess, test and otherwise analyze the application and all of its content in connection with this Contest. Sponsor and Administrator shall be free to use for any purpose the residuals resulting from access to or work with the Entrants' application. The term "residuals" means information in intangible form, which is retained in memory by persons who have had access to the submissions, including ideas, concepts, know-how, or techniques contained therein. Sponsor nor Administrator shall not have any obligation to limit or restrict the assignment of such persons or to pay royalties for any work resulting from the use of residuals.

As a condition of participating in this Contest, you agree that any and all disputes which cannot be resolved between the parties, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, exclusively, before a court located in the State of Florida having competent jurisdiction, which Court shall apply the laws of the State of Connecticut without regard for doctrines of Conflict of Law. Further, in any such dispute, under no circumstances will you be permitted to obtain awards for, and hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental or consequential damages, or any other damages, including attorneys' fees, other than your actual out-of-pocket expenses (i.e., costs associated with entering this Contest, if applicable), and you further waive all rights to have damages multiplied or increased and any right to a jury trial.
